At Rewatchable, we believe online video is much more than just setting up a video camera and uploading the content to your website. We believe video content is king and when produced correctly it can enhance a website and instantly build credibility with prospects and customers.
However, even when the content is great we sometimes see beautiful video that is being played in ugly, boring and poorly functioning video players for no apparent reason. The Dabber video player is different. Dabber’s video players are well designed, dynamic and easy to use. A basic non-commercial version is free and commercial video players start at only $75.
I recently had the opportunity to interview the CEO of The Dabber Agency, Daniel Daboczy. He and co-founder Eric Webber are clearly focused on “beauty, brand management and user experience” to make online video a better experience for users and content providers.
Both Eric Weber and I have a history as curators and producers in the contemporary art-field. And since 2004 we felt a frustration over the lack of good tools to communicate worldwide as a brand. We had Youtube of course but that didn’t feel serious enough and is only a complement in communication. So Eric Weber and I started an online video channel based on the JW player where we focused on beauty, brand management and user experience. We didn’t have a big audience but everybody loved the look and feel of that channel. In 2008 we saw an opportunity to start our own company and we set out to create The Dabber Player and The Dabber Agency both focusing on aesthetics, functionality and user interface and experience.
It´s better because we, not being engineers, have found methods for delivery, programing and design that are unusual. And it is better because we know how a good visual experience can captivate audiences. Our experience as curators of successful exhibitions with a critical and impatient audience has taught us how important visual communication is. The other tools out there might be perfect in technology but they lack knowledge of visual interaction.
There are several reasons. One is control of content and what kind of content you and your brand is displayed next to. Another reason is that standard players are quite boring and can hold back aspirations in good design or user experience. Another is that everybody needs something unique and our players can be customized in infinite ways.
First impressions last. The wow factor is something that can strengthen a brand. A bad and ugly player is something that might bring down the value of how clients perceive you. The look is important because it tells your audience that you care and have spent time and effort on their experience.
We develop new players all the time. Some need to be tested and some are only client custom made products, but we strive towards building more and more video and other products that users simply can implement and make their online presences better.
We see that a lot more interactive video is coming. Hopefully that will be household items. Videos that you can click in if you need more info and of course beauty, depth and the entire use of the possibility that the screen gives. Of course alot more 3D films and 3D screens.
We usually give the advice to use and create something that reflects your brand. If you are a standard company use standard methods but if you strive to be something else you should take the time and effort to find, build or use something that helps, lifts and properly displays your brand. We have shown with The Dabber Player that it doesn’t have to cost a lot and that almost everything can be created.
